Wellness Roadmap Part 1

Summary

On episode 295 of 40+ Fitness, Coach Allan introduces a new five part series called the Wellness Roadmap. Instead of picking a single best of episode to mark the milestone of episode 300, he built a framework listeners can use to plan and work their own health and fitness journey heading into the new year.

He uses the metaphor of setting a GPS before a road trip: know your destination, know your route, and know how to reroute when life throws a detour at you. The rest of the series walks through setting that GPS, working the actual path (streets), and knowing what to do once you arrive.

This episode is short by design. It exists to frame the four episodes that follow so the whole series reads as one continuous plan for 2018.

Key Takeaways

  • The Wellness Roadmap is a five part framework, not another list of tips. Allan built it instead of picking a “best of” episode for the milestone 300th show, because he wanted something concrete listeners could actually use to plan their own path rather than more scattered information.
  • Your route depends entirely on your destination. Driving from Pensacola to Washington DC calls for a completely different plan than driving to Houston, and the same logic applies to a health goal: define the destination before choosing a strategy.
  • The old paper map becomes a GPS. Allan reframes goal setting as setting a GPS coordinate, a fixed reference point you can return to any time you get off track, get rerouted, or hit unexpected traffic in life.
  • The series is sequenced on purpose. Episode 296 sets the GPS, episodes 297 and 298 cover the journey itself (split into two parts because there was too much ground to cover), and episode 299 covers what happens after you reach the goal.
  • This episode is intentionally short. Allan wanted it to work purely as an introduction so the rest of the series would make sense as one continuous plan, not five random topics.
  • The timing is deliberate. Releasing this the week before the new year is meant to help listeners walk into 2018 with an actual plan instead of a vague resolution.
  • The goal is a repeatable process, not a one time event. Allan frames the roadmap as something listeners can reuse any time they set a new goal, not just a one time exercise for January.
